How to name a language

When you set a saved output language in /settings, you type the language into a text field. You can enter a common name, such as Japanese, French, or German, or a more specific tag when a language needs one. Jibber supports a wide range of languages. This field is what the settings command uses to decide the language your translations, grammar notes, and summaries come back in.

The guide does not publish a full list of supported languages, so the examples below are illustrative rather than exhaustive.

Examples you can type

What you type What it means When you would use it
Japanese Japanese A plain name is enough for most languages.
French French A plain name is enough for most languages.
German German A plain name is enough for most languages.
Filipino Filipino A plain name is enough for most languages.
pt-BR Brazilian Portuguese A tag is useful when a language has regional variants.
es-419 Latin American Spanish A tag is useful when a language has regional variants.
zh-CN Simplified Chinese A tag is useful when a language has script variants.
zh-TW Traditional Chinese A tag is useful when a language has script variants.

If a language is not supported

What happens if you set nothing

If you do not set a saved language, Jibber follows the language your Discord app is set to. You can change this at any time from the settings command.
